I approach research as a cycle that feeds into itself. As we learn more about a specific product or domain, we can build a larger body of knowledge and begin to establish a more holistic perspective on the ways people use technology.
Throughout my career I have conducted research at all stages of the product life cycle – from early conceptual work to refactoring existing design.
I am a classically trained ethnographer, and I employ a broad range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies. When I start planning any research project, I let the research goals and questions guide the type of methodology I will use for the project.
My favorite research tool is a pen and field notebook; I carry one around with me just about anywhere I go.
